Placed in northern Italy outside the city Vicenza the Villa Rotonda is a house designed to be in harmony with its surrounding landscape. The Renaissance villa by Andrea Palladio was completed in 1592.

Villa Rotonda has a symmetrical plan with a circular hall in the centre of the building. Rooms are located around the hall, and a portico is centred on each facade. The villa rises on a plinth placed on a hilltop overlooking the surrounding landscape. The villa is rotated so each axis is a 45-degree angle from the cardinal points of the compass, in this way all rooms receive sunlight.

The villa looks completely symmetrical but varies in how it meets its setting. In this way, the villa frames the landscape with its controlled views and 4 different experiences are achieved from each portico
