Local Perspective







The world is made up of many, many different elements, which is chaotic and full of uncertainty. However, when we look at it in a constant perspective in our daily life, every-thing seems to be very reasonable, but obviously, it will also become very ordinary and boring.

In the history of painting and photography, artists have broken through this single perspective of observation in different ways, trying to provide people with new ways to understand the world and stimulate people's imagination.

Among them, the deconstruction of the whole is an important direction of exploration. By observing and reorganizing the local perspective, it will reveal some details that are not easy to observe in daily life. At the same time, the recombination of different perspectives can also create a new whole and give us a totally new experience.

I found that it was actually similar to the core idea of traditional Chinese painting and garden. There is no specific perspective in chinese paintings. Chinese painter never direct-ly depicts what actually exists. Instead, they selected different parts of life through obser-vation from reality, and after subjective experience treatment, they reconstructed all parts into a new whole between reality and fiction. ln a word, Chinese art is about local perspectives.

On the other hand, we all know that Bergen is a city closely connected with the sea and mountains. Wherever you walk in Bergen ,your eyes cannot escape from the sea and mountain at all. However, over the past hundred years.People occupied the shore of Bergen first, then gradually extended to the mountains, and finally broke the close connection between the mountains and the sea. Today in Sandiviken, almost all of the shore is occupied by private houses. People can only see the oscean through the narrow spaces between these houses in one fixed and boring way.The sense of the connection between ocean and mountains has been greatly weekened.

I try to transform these narrow and single-perspective space into a multi-persprctive space and make people aware of this problem through a kind of land art, breaking a very orderly and reasonable environment, providing people with a new perspective to observe the surrounding environment, and at the same time, thinking about the relationship between themselves and the environment. The device itself changes with the environment and is always in a very open state.











Walking and Watching My third point of concern is the alley. We all know that in Bergen, especially when you're walking in Sandviken, its hard to see the ocean in its entirety, and the only way you can see it is through a alley between the houses on either side.

In fact, when we move, what we see is not the same size as the alley, but much larger than the alley, with continuous changes. I used the same method as before, I moved from the left side of the path to the right side, and took a video to capture the entire process, then took a photo from the video every 5 seconds, and IDnally combined the photos And become a brand new image What I find interesting is that the size of this alley actually controls our perception. When you walk a certain distance from the gap and keep your eyes on the ocean, you feel that the ocean is moving, not you. But if the alley is too big or too small, this feeling will disappear.
















The whole design consists of a path with 35 meters long and 1.5 meters wide from the land to the sea, as well as three pieces of mirrored reflectors with the steel structure. The foundation of the path is rubble. Slightly above the foundation is a glass brick path, with lights buried underneath, which can be seen from a distance at night. Two of the three reflectors are slightly bent to meet the need for refection and to make the structure more stable.
