Located in Frascati, Italy, Villa Aldobrandini has developed into one of the most well-known examples of early Italian Baroque style. The Villa’s design relies on axial symmetry and extended avenues bisecting the main axis, while the building itself acts as a screen to separate the front from the back of the land. A large overgrown Bosco becomes the backdrop to the building and completes the breaks in the tympanum to complete the roof projection. In doing so, this “completed” view of the Villa can only be witnessed when approaching from the entrance path. Once the axial approach is parted from, this specifically constructed image no longer exists, thus, the privileged view allows for only one direction of movement.
